… because last night’s election results are a thunderous rebuke to the Trump administration. It may be too much to ask, given the structural dynamics of the current system, but one can hope that shifting fault lines might lead to an overhaul of US foreign policy, beginning with the Iran War; a rollback on the tariff regime; and changes across the board on immigration policy and enforcement. I’ve written on each of these subjects extensively and I could name a dozen other issues that need to be addressed—from government privileging of the military-tech-industrial complex to healthcare oligopolies—but that’s just a start.
Will it happen? Not in any fundamental way, but it’s nice to fantasize that the cracks in illiberal populism might be reaching American shores.
