Song of the Day: Never Dreamed You’d Leave in Summer, music and lyrics by Syreeta Wright and Stevie Wonder, appears on Wonder’s final Motown album release, “Where I’m Coming From” (1971), which is credited as a bold turn in the artist’s legendary discography. The artist celebrates the Fiftieth Anniversary of “Songs in the Key of Life” this fall, as he kicks off an 18-date global tour. This track, though not from that great album, is a heartbreaking song of love lost too soon. It’s a fitting coda to a sweet NYC summer that seems to have slipped away too swiftly.
Tonight at 8:04 pm (ET) in the Northern Hemisphere, the Autumnal Equinox arrives.
