Song of the Day: You’d Be So Easy to Love, words and music by Cole Porter, was originally slated as one of the musical numbers in the 1934 Broadway musical “Anything Goes“. It was cut from the musical, though it appeared in later revivals. Porter rewrote it for the 1936 film, “Born to Dance“, where it was sung by James Stewart and Eleanor Powell [YouTube link]. It’s since become a jazz standard performed by a diverse array of musicians, from Ella Fitzgerald to Bill Evans and Chick Corea [YouTube links]. The 79th Annual Tony Awards air this weekend, and this is the first of three nods to songs that have been heard on the Broadway stage.
