Song of the Day #2310

Song of the Day: Blue Rondo a la Turk, composed by jazz pianist Dave Brubeck, appears on the artist’s trailblazing 1959 album, “Time Out“, which is  famous for its use of unconventional time signatures in jazz. The album gave us “Take Five“, which became the biggest selling jazz single of all time. This song is written in 9/8 time, with a 4/4 side theme. Why am I featuring this song today? Well, today we have the only “Blue Moon” of the 2026 calendar year. A Blue Moon is not blue; it is merely the second full moon in a calendar month. So, I’m featuring a song with “blue” in the title. (And FWIW, I featured the Rodgers and Hart classic, “Blue Moon“, back on the blue moon of June 30, 2007.) Check out the original Brubeck recording, with Paul Desmond on alto sax and an amazing vocal rendition by Al Jarreau, who wrote the lyrics himself [YouTube links].
