Brown had recorded an earlier version of the song in 1984, but this version went to #1 on the Billboard Dance Club chart. It incorporated a familiar bass line—think Madonna‘s “Into the Groove“, which was first heard in the film, “Desperately Seeking Susan,” released six months prior on March 29, 1985.
