Song of the Day: Blue in Green is one of five trailblazing tracks to appear on “Kind of Blue“, the all-time best-selling jazz album. The song was originally credited to Miles Davis, but it has long been speculated that pianist Bill Evans was its sole composer. Later releases credit both musicians. The whole album is, in many respects, a by-product not only of the Davis-Evans collaboration, but of its remarkable ensemble and its groundbreaking explorations in modal jazz. The following year, Bill Evans recorded his own version of the song on “Portrait in Jazz,” with his legendary trio featuring Scott LaFaro on bass and Paul Motian on drums. Yesterday was the 97th anniversary of the birth of Bill Evans and today is the 67th anniversary of the release of “Kind of Blue”.
