Song of the Day: Move on Up, words and music by Curtis Mayfield, appears on the artist’s 1970 debut album, “Curtis“. Though this song didn’t chart well on its initial release, it became a classic in progressive soul. On this date in 1942, Mayfield, the “Gentle Genius“, was born. Check out the original Mayfield recording, as well as the #1 Disco Reboot from 1979 by Destination, which merged the song with Mayfield’s “Keep on Pushing” [YouTube links].
