I returned to Brooklyn’s Marine Park today and visited the Salt Marsh Nature Center, which is only open to the public on weekends. I go there as often as I can just to visit Pepper, a Diamondback Terrapin.
The first time I encountered Pepper in 2024, it was love at first sight. Born in the wild in 2005, the 21-year-old Pepper is responsive in every way to the presence of others. Absolutely adorable, and full of color and life, he engages in playful activities that put a smile on anyone’s face. Below is a collage of photos I took of this sweet terrapin.
