As a follow-up to the Metropolitan Museum of Art “Guitar Heroes” concert, featuring my brother, jazz guitarist Carl Barry, I’ll be uploading on YouTube various recordings and performances by both Carl and his wife (my sister-in-law), vocalist Joanne Barry.

Today is the debut on YouTube of Carl and Joanne’s album, “Holding On,” which was released in 1984 by Stash Records, and re-released by P-Vine Records in 2002. Granted, I’m partial, but it’s a wonderful album of mostly original compositions, featuring extended solos and terrific ensemble play. The selections include:

  1. Afternoon (Philip Verdi / Joanne Barry)
  2. Holding On (Philip Verdi / Joanne Barry)
  3. Roller Coaster (Carl and Joanne Barry)
  4. Love is Stronger Far Than We (P. Barouk, F. Lai, J. Keller)
  5. As I Look at the World (Carl and Joanne Barry)
  6. Footprints (Wayne Shorter) [an instrumental]
  7. Circles (Philip Verdi / Joanne Barry)
  8. But You Are Gone (Philip Verdi / Joanne Barry)

In addition to Carl and Joanne, the band features bassist Steve La Spina, drummer Eliot Zigmund, and drummer John Clay on two of the tracks (“As I Look at the World” and “Footprints”).
