Song of the Day: Russian Easter Festival Overture, Op. 36, written by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, made its debut in 1888 and was dedicated by the composer to the memories of Modest Mussorgsky and Alexander Borodin. With a H/T to my friend Ellen, who reminded me of this wonderful piece last week, I present it today on Eastern Orthodox Easter. This recording is by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Daniel Barenboim [YouTube link]. To all my family and friends who celebrate Greek Easter today, Christos Anesti! And for those who missed last year’s four-part series, “Sacred Cinema“, it can now be found at a single link on my ancient homepage.
