Song of the Day: Moanin’, composed by Bobby Timmons, was first recorded by Art Blakey‘s band, The Jazz Messengers. It’s the title track to their 1959 album. The track and the album were inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998. Today’s featured recording is by jazz organist Joey DeFrancesco, from his 1995 album, “The Street of Dreams“. On this date in 1971, DeFrancesco was born. He died at the young age of 51 on August 25, 2022.
