Song of the Day: The Shining (“Midnight, The Stars, and You”), words and music by Harry M. Woods, Jimmy Campbell and Reginald Connelly, is heard twice in this Stanley Kubrick-directed 1980 horror film, starring Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall. However much this adaptation differs from the Stephen King novel, it’s still one of my all-time favorite horror flicks. The version of this song used in the film as source music was a 1934 recording by Ray Noble and His Orchestra with Al Bowlly on vocals. Check out a video montage with this song used as backdrop [YouTube link]. Tomorrow, we’ll conclude with another Kubrick film that brings us full circle to the composer that opened this year’s Film Music February Festival.
