Song of the Day: One Battle After Another (“Guitar for Willa”) [YouTube link], composed by Jonny Greenwood, is a delicate, intimate, and melodic respite from an otherwise tense Oscar-nominated score to this 2025 film, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. At once comedic, suspenseful, and action-packed, the film stars the Oscar-nominated “Best Actor” Leonardo DiCaprio and Oscar-nominated “Best Supporting Actors” Sean Penn and Benicio del Toro, as well as Chase Infiniti, in her film debut, in the role of Willa.
There are lots of satirical laugh out loud lines in this film. “Well, maybe you should have studied the rebellion text a little harder” remains one of my favorites. But the film strikes a deeply serious tone on many divisive and timely issues. The Golden Globe-winning “Best Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy)” is also Oscar-nominated for Best Picture.
