Starring the Oscar-nominated Michael B. Jordan in a dual role, the film features many interwoven subtexts that deal with the black American experience. The scene in which this song is showcased provides a glimpse of that experience through the lens of the blues and its tranformative impact on the history of music. The song, performed by Brooklyn-born actor and musician Miles Caton, is nominated for a “Best Original Song” Oscar.
