Song of the Day: Emerald, Texas (“Main Theme”) [Soundcloud link], composed by Michael Gordon Shapiro, accompanies this 2014 film, which was inspired by the L. Frank Baum fantasy novel, “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz“. (“Wicked” isn’t the only work to do a little reimagining!) This story is set in the city of Emerald, Texas. And it is available in full on YouTube. Every year, I feature a cue from the work of my friend Mike Shapiro. I treasure the breadth and depth of his music, including the score to this film.
