Song of the Day: Turn Out the Stars [YouTube link], composed by Bill Evans, appears on the remarkable 1966 album, “Intermodulation,” which the legendary pianist recorded with virtuoso jazz guitarist Jim Hall. This was a follow-up to the duo’s acclaimed 1962 album “Undercurrent“. The intimacy and delicacy of the interplay between Evans and Hall is part of what made their introspective collaborations such masterpieces. On December 10, Jim Hall will have been gone 12 years. Today, however, we celebrate the ninety-fifth anniversary of Hall’s birth. What a grand musical legacy he left us.
