Song of the Day: Cry Me a River, words and music by Arthur Hamilton, was recorded in 1955 by actress and vocalist Julie London, with Barney Kessel on guitar and Ray Leatherwood on bass. Featured as the first single off London’s debut album, “Julie is Her Name,” the recording was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001 and the National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress in 2016. London also sang the song in the 1956 film, “The Girl Can’t Help It.” My Summer Music Festival may be over, but I’ll continue to highlight songs that mark significant birthdays and annivesaries moving forward. On this date in 1926, Julie London was born. Check out the original 1955 recording and its reboot in the 1956 film [YouTube links].
