Song of the Day #2215

Song of the Day: The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, words and music by Jimmy Webb, takes its title from the 1966 science fiction novel by Robert Heinlein. The first vocal rendition of this song was recorded in 1974 by Joe Cocker, who is part of the 2025 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class. In that same year, Glen Campbell recorded his own version for his album, “Reunion: The Songs of Jimmy Webb.” The song also appears on the 1997 Grammy Award-winning Best Jazz Instrumental Album, “Beyond the Missouri Sky (Short Stories),” featuring guitarist Pat Metheny and bassist Charlie Haden. Today is Pat Metheny‘s 71st birthday. Check out his sweet duet, as well as renditions by Joe Cocker and Glen Campbell [YouTube links].
