Song of the Day: Menagerie [YouTube link] was composed by banjoist Béla Fleck, who is heard in a superb duet with the legendary Chick Corea on the 2007 Latin Grammy Award-winning “Best Instrumental Album,” “The Enchantment.” The duo released another album (“Remembrance“) more than three years after Corea’s untimely passing, and won another Grammy Award in 2025 for “Best Jazz Instrumental Album.” Happily, Béla Fleck, a native New Yorker, is still with us. Today, he turns 67 years old! Check out this lively meeting of musical minds.
