Song of the Day: Who’s Lovin’ You, written by Smokey Robinson, was first recorded by The Miracles, but its most famous version was recorded by The Jackson 5 (as the B-side to their first #1 hit, “I Want You Back“). This past Wednesday, June 25th, marked twenty-six years that Michael Jackson died. Fifty-six years ago on this date, this song could be found on the jukebox of the Stonewall Inn. In the wee hours of June 28, 1969, that gay bar was raided by police for the umpteenth time. The patrons had had enough with routine police brutality and marginalization. On that date and for days thereafter, they fought back—a testament not only to the fortitude of the LGBTQ community, but to the universal struggle for freedom and personal authenticity. And that is the origin of Pride celebrations in the month of June. Happy Pride Weekend! (And yes, the Snowman is back with all the colors of the rainbow!)
