One of the all-time great film-score composers, Lalo Schifrin, died yesterday at the age of 93. Combining jazz, Latin, and other fusion elements into his memorable scores, Schifrin left an indelible mark on the cinema. I’ve featured so many of his themes through the years on my list of “favorite songs”—from “Mission Impossible” and “Mannix” to “Dirty Harry“.

He won an honorary Oscar in 2019 “in recognition of his unique musical style, compositional integrity and influential contributions to the art of film scoring.” RIP, Lalo.
