Song of the Day: Coney Island [YouTube link] features the words and music of Terry Berkson and the vocals of Steven Delopoulos. I met Jonathan Berkson, Terry’s son, when I moved into my new apartment back in October 2024. He expertly installed my bedroom air conditioner. In our conversations, we talked of our love for Brooklyn (and Brooklyn pizza!). Jonathan was generous enough to share this fun Coney Island song, written by his Dad. Tonight, at 10:42 pm (ET), the Summer Solstice arrives, and it’s also the first night of this summer’s Coney Island Fireworks! (And tomorrow is the 43rd Annual Mermaid Parade!) I’ve used this song as the soundtrack to last year’s final Summer fireworks display as seen from Earthcam. It’s the kick-off to my Tenth Annual Summer Music Festival. Now a decade old, this year’s festival focuses on songs that commemorate significant anniversaries as well as the birthdays of various music artists. Happy Summer!
