I was so very sorry to read of the passing of the amazingly talented singer and pianist Roberta Flack, who died today at the age of 88. Flack was diagnosed with ALS in 2022.
Blending elements of jazz, soul, and folk music into her repertoire, Flack gave us some wonderful music through the years—from her solo recordings, such as “Killing Me Softly with His Song,” “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” (which was featured in the 1972 Clint Eastwood thriller, “Play Misty For Me“) and the title song to the 1982 film, “Making Love” to her legendary duets with Donny Hathaway (“Where is the Love?“, “Back Together Again“).
