Today is actor Gene Hackman’s 95th birthday. A two-time Oscar winner, he’s had so many memorable roles in scores of movies over the years—from “The Poseidon Adventure,” “Superman,” and “The Conversation” to “Mississippi Burning,” “Unforgiven,” “The Birdcage,” and of course, “The French Connection” (whose iconic car-train chase was filmed on the Brooklyn streets I know so well).
I enjoyed this sweet 2020 interview of him in The Independent.
Turner Classic Movies (TCM) is running a mini-movie marathon tonight of some of Hackman’s films, kicking off with “The French Connection.”
