It’s been two years since your suffering ended. And yet, it seems like a lifetime, given all the profound changes that have come to pass.

I find myself in a very different place today. Quite literally. For the first time in 38 years, I am not living in the apartment that you, Mom, and I called home. In fact, I’m not living in the same Gravesend section of Brooklyn anymore, a neighborhood that we called home from the moment we were born.

But I’m still in Brooklyn—the Madison neighborhood of Sheepshead Bay, where Gravesend Neck Road begins. This borough and this city remain as much a part of me as they were of you.

Moving was difficult on so many levels. But your love, guidance, and support continue to inspire me as I make this my new home.

I miss you more than ever, my Bitty—and I will always love you.
