One of the truly great musical giants of our time, Quincy Jones, died yesterday at the age of 91. A superb musician, composer, arranger, conductor, and producer, Jones worked with some of the most significant artists of the twentieth century—from Sarah Vaughan and Ray Charles to Frank Sinatra and Michael Jackson. Even as a film score composer, he gave us memorable soundtracks to movies as varied as “Walk Don’t Run,” “In Cold Blood,” “In the Heat of the Night,” and “The Color Purple.”
The albums he helmed—from “The Dude” and “Sinatra at the Sands” to “Thriller,” which remains the biggest selling album of all time—are legendary.
RIP, Q. What a legacy!
