The New York Mets, who gave us an exciting 2024 postseason, lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers tonight, as LA advances to the World Series to faceoff against the American League Champion New York Yankees.

Given that the very notion of a “Subway Series” is rooted in the rivalry between the Yankees and their original crosstown rivals, the New York Giants and the Brooklyn Dodgers, this 2024 matchup has a bit of nostalgia connected to it. This will be the twelfth time that these franchises have faced off in the Fall Classic. Indeed, no two teams have met more often in the World Series than the Yankees and the Dodgers. I wasn’t around when the Dodgers were in Brooklyn, but I certainly do remember the great 1977 and 1978 World Series, in which the Yankees prevailed, and the 1981 World Series—the last time these two clubs met in the postseason—which the Dodgers won. Boo hiss.

The World Series begins on Friday, October 25 on FOX. Given how formidable LA is, it’s going to be a tough series for the Yankees to win. But that doesn’t deter me from saying: Let’s Go Yanks!
