Yacht Sandman?

Way back on October 18, 2013, my Song of the Day was the classic “Enter Sandman” by Metallica, in tribute to the great Hall of Fame relief pitcher Mariano Rivera on the occasion of a Yankee Stadium Tribute Day. Since I never feature a song TWICE in “My Favorite Songs“, this is, shall we say, a curiosity? The description tells us: “This is a Yacht Rock/Funk AI Cover of ‘Enter Sandman’ by Metallica. This song is intended as a parody for entertainment purposes and to provide comedic criticism of the original song by presenting it in a completely different and unique musical style to that of the original. Parodies of this nature are covered under Section 107 of the US Copyright Act and are considered fair use of a copyrighted work.”

If you ask me, there’s nothing really comedically critical about it. I don’t even think it’s a parody. I think they’re saying that to protect themselves from a lawsuit.

I know I’m opening myself up to the Hounds of Hell by proclaiming that … I really like it! Some will consider it a sacrilege that the song has a smooth jazz, funk-like “Yacht Rock” texture. (It sounds like it’s got a dash of Michael McDonald, a dollop of George Benson, and a garnish of Earth, Wind and Fire.) Others will flip out simply because it appears to be AI-generated. Judge for yourselves!

H/T to my friends Ryan and Jacob for alerting me to this rendition.
