Every so often, when I’m not posting “Songs of the Day” or “I Love Brooklyn!” videos or my escapades on the famed Coney Island Cyclone, when I’m not writing essays on the need for dialectical critical thinking styles or the culture wars and the collapse of American politics, I sit down in front of the TV to relax. On Independence Day, I did just that! Bad enough that Joey Chestnut wasn’t in the Hot Dog Eating Competition at Nathan’s. So, I geared up to watch NBC’s coverage of the annual Macy’s Fireworks Display in New York City.

Boy was I disappointed. I could have written a whole essay on how they lost the forest for the trees, how it was important to grasp the dialectical totality from many different vantage points. Or just how PISSED OFF I was that the cameras focused more attention on the concert stage than on the beautiful fireworks display taking place over the Hudson River. The words coming out of my mouth were not fit for a family newspaper. Instead, I opted for a brief, polite letter to the “Voice of the People.” Today, the New York Daily News published my comment (below, also at this link). Better luck next year, NBC!
